In an era of increasingly resilient body armor, new small arms ammunition solutions are required to even the odds between the shooter and shootee. The company Stiletto Systems, based out of the UK, is advertising its new bullet as a possible solution for this problem. The round, a relatively conventional 7.62mm tungsten cored armor piercing projectile superficially similar to Nammo’s M993 round, is advertised as having considerable penetrative power: 20.5 mm of rolled homogeneous armor at 100 meters, 100% of the time. Their 5.56mm variant deserves some mention as well: It launches a very heavy 82 grain tungsten cored projectile at 2,720 ft/s muzzle velocity from a 23″ barrel. This reportedly gives it the power to punch a 10mm RHA plate at 450m, which implies a substantial effective range versus hard ceramic armor.

Stiletto demoed their weapons in a video published via Defence Blog just a few days ago. It is embedded below:

The Stiletto Systems product presentation, available here, is full of interesting – although sometimes quirky – concepts, including caseless 40mm grenades launched from a sniper rifle esque platform (reminiscent of the 25mm Barrett XM109), and an “advanced” pistol that looks like a hybrid between a Beretta 92 and a Wildey, but that shoots both 9x19mm Parabellum and 7.62x25mm Tokarev.
